As I write this, it almost feels like summer is here already. The flowers are just starting to bloom, among them my two favorites, Lily of the Valley and lilacs. The OSNM just had a fantastic Spring Symposium at Maple Leaf ThinkFOOD! Centre in Mississauga. A huge thank you to Monica and Amber for organizing everything. One of the highlights was the presentation by Cate Collins entitled,“Is your Underwear Too Tight? Learn the Letting Go Formula”. This session offered guidance and insight into handling stress in the workplace which, as we all know, is a huge issue. With all the added assign- ments and staff shortages, it is difficult to get our daily tasks done. Cate shared her knowledge on how to better organize our thoughts and become less stressed. “It is the mission of the Society to develop, promote and represent the profession of Nutrition Management in Ontario.” The Board at OSNM continue to work towards getting the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to better understand the needs in our workplace, such as added hours for Food Service Workers and Nutrition Managers in Ontario. Addi- tional hours would allow more time to get our tasks done and not be so stressed. It would be wonderful to be able to take time during the workday to sit with a resi- dent at a mealtime and get to know them. So many members of the older generation have such insight and wisdom and would welcome the personal attention. In saying that, I would highly recommend that you each take even just ten minutes at one meal service each day and get to know your residents better – the rewards will be mutual, I am certain. I would also like to encourage everyone to rally your fellow Nutrition Managers to join OSNM and make their voice heard. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the 2018 Annual Fall Conference taking place September 27 – 28 in Grimsby at the Casablanca Inn and Winery. All are welcome to come dine and unwind. Cheers!
